You will be given a residence permit card upon arrival, which allow you to reside in the particular Schengen country for the full duration of the academic program and you can travel to other Schengen countries (up to 90 days in any 180-day period).
Transit Visa
A Schengen Transit Visa, also called Airport Transit Visa is required for travelers who need to pass through a Schengen country on their way to a non-Schengen destination. This visa permits the traveler to remain in the international zone of an airport while awaiting a connecting flight during a layover time, but does not allow entry into the country or exit from the airport.
Not all nationalities require a transit visa. It is mandatory for nationals of certain countries only.
